My first musical experiences revolved around composing and improvising on the guitar. To this day, writing and performing on the guitar feels like the most natural way to express my music. While I love playing pieces by other composers and writing works independent of the guitar, combining the two has always brought me the most joy.
Solo Guitar Works
Scamper
-
Scamper is a fast-paced, lively piece which combines the rock and blues music of my youth with the more virtuosic fingerstyle techniques of classical guitar.

Homeward
-
Homeward is a short piece I wrote in March 2026 while spending a few days back in Ireland. I often find that messing around on the old guitars I keep stored in my parent's house always leads to new ideas. With hints of Irish ornamentation, embellishments and warm gestures, this piece is dedicated to my mother.

Dynamite
-
Fiery runs, rock licks and bluesy bends all bounce off one another and build to an emphatically strummed climax in Dynamite. Short and explosive, this was the the first piece I wrote in the experimental tuning listed below.
Duration: c. 3 mins
Tuning: C#-G#-D#-G#-C#-D#

Serene
-
Serene was written directly after Dynamite and as such, explores a vastly different sound world – the lyrical and expressive motifs at the outset gather momentum in the dance-like middle section before returning with more virtuosity and freedom.

Hommage à Tárrega
-
This piece was written during my undergraduate degree, at which time Francisco Tárrega was one of my favourite composers (in fact, every recital I gave featured his music)! Hommage à Tárrega is my tribute to him and is inspired by the thematic balance, brightness and motivic playfulness I associate with his work.

June
-
Sometimes, pieces just grow organically for a particular mood or vibe. June was written on the first week of my summer holidays after a hectic academic year – stress had just morphed into anticipation and I was full of excitement to make the most of my next few months of freedom. June is where the first 1% of this energy went!

Roland
-
I consider Roland to be my first ‘real’ composition written in response to the most incredible guitarist I have met to date – Roland Dyens. In November 2015, Roland gave masterclasses before his concert at the MTU Cork School of Music. As a young player new to the world of classical guitar, I was admittedly quite intimidated. However, Roland saw past my technical shortcomings and was very encouraging of my playing and potential. His nighttime concert blew me away, particularly his mastery of harmonics and his profound musicality. I composed Roland within 3 days of this concert – to my shock and surprise, Roland came across the YouTube video and even left a comment to express his support and belief in me. One for the memory books!
